A Summer Style for R&R

It’s common to think of summer as a time to break from our routines or hard work and simply relax.

Plans for family vacations and road trips are often scheduled around the summer months to just get away and have some downtime. My daughter would rather we keep in step with the summer vacation trends on cruses and abroad, but I  prefer to sit still more and chill.

Summer travel can be taxing if enough time to readjust to being back home is not baked into the vacay itinerary.

Since our family has not struck out on very long-distance travel this year yet, l I have been making it a point to actually slow down regardless this summer! I decided to on purpose breathe, think, plan, and even dream. It’s not always easy to accomplish this to the extent I would like while working a 9-5 job.  But I am still able to use the weekends and be intentional about slowing down.

Here are 5 simple adjustments I’ve been putting in play this summer to bring down my pace a notch or two.

  1. Try to sleep in an extra 30 minutes. There is no school traffic, and school is out. So no need to huddle to get the kids fed and out the door on time. That in itself is at least an hour you can put back into your life.
  2. Hang out in the evenings in the front yard with a book under a tree. Or sit by the pool while the kids play for an extra hour a couple of times a week.
  3. Avoid cooking every day. You can add an extra day a week to eat out or put some food on the grill for the entire week at one time. Not needing to think of what to eat or cook is a stress reliever.
  4. Do nothing for the first 10 min when you open your eyes in the morning. No kidding, this is absolutely magical. It’s quiet, and I can hear. Later I like to Jot down what I am hearing or is clear to me.
  5. Don’t over commit your weekend. Plan only one day for activities over the weekend. I like to take at least 1 of the 2 weekend days to sleep late with no demands on my time to be anywhere. Not grocery shopping, kids stuff or even breakfast. That 1 day out of the weekend is a self serve day. That’s the reason I prefer to grocery shop on Fridays.

Whatever way you decided to get some R&R this summer, don’t forget to do it! It’s IMPORTANT! XOXO……Enjoy your style!
