Wearing Black is Not Just for Funerals

I will admit, as much as I can’t live happy without bright colors, my life without black will never do. Today, I have decided to put to rest the melancholy myth of wearing black since it is often synonymous with death, evil, depression, darkness and the dammed.  In my view, black is the epitome of classic style and timeless elegance.

Coco Chanel, one of the most iconic designers of all times, comes to mind when I think of black in fashion. She places the color black in its own fashion category. Her quilted handbag, the Chanel No. 5 fragrance, and most notably, the little black dress, simply defies the gloomy stereotype of black.

For this look I went with black on black. I have been longing to wear this pleated faux leather skirt for some time and it holds its weight in gold. The top also features pleats in the neck tie. It feels very elegant and it’s absolutely beautiful.

A splash of bright colors did the trick to accentuate the dark rich hue in both pieces against each other.

Things can easily go south if you don’t know how to balance your look (remember the doom and gloom stereotypes? hmmmm). You can start to look like someone in mourning and raise concerns if you don’t hit the right color cords. So be careful not to drown out your own beauty wearing black. That’s where the gloominess comes in. Adding colors from the opposite side of the color wheel will help you keep the right balance. Too much of anything is just too much.

I believe that colors have a voice and how you combine them can make a perfect symphony. So shop black and enjoy making a statement with a touch of bright colors. Enjoy your style!
