How to Choose Clothes That Fit Best for Your Body Type

Everyone has something they do not like about their bodies. When my daughter was smaller, she often repeated her teacher’s favorite line when someone in the class had an issue with what was given to them: “You get what you get, and you don’t pitch a fit.” End of a tantrum!

Along those same lines, we have the bodies we have, and we work with what we have. The only reason we want our bodies to be different is there are other bodies around us that we compare ourselves too.

What Does NOT Work for My Body Type

Since that is no good, let’s do a couple of things today.

  1. Determine that our bodies are enough and perfect the way God made them.
  2. Other beautiful people around us that we admire should inspire us to experiment with our styles vs. allowing thoughts of comparison, thus belittling ourselves.
  3. Learn how to dress and flatter the body you have

We already covered 1-2 with the statement alone, so on to #3.

During one of my two-week online body image challenges, I assigned the class the task of getting commando in the mirror to actually notice their body without hiding behind big clothes or ignoring what they hated about themselves. I wanted them to see where their curves hit or did not. What needed a little extra attention and what was spot on for them. I encouraged everyone to repeat this exercise often. Not just as a body analysis but to start getting comfortable with their body visually and admiring it.

Now we are ready to get dressed up. I will be the guinea pig here. I am curvy! Small waist but thick legs, thighs, bottom, and hips. That’s what I got.

Well, I love pencil skirts. If you have a similar body type as mine, you know what’s going to happen with a pencil skirt on us.

It is going to: A. Stand to attention in the back (like an open trunk of a car) if it is a short one. B. My bottom looks smashed to a pancake. C. It rolls up in the front, starting from the waist. D. All of the above

Overall, looking like I am headed to use the toilet is NOT A GOOD LOOK! The skirt is fabulous, and it’s my favorite type of skirt, but it’s not the best option for my body type, no matter how beautiful it looks on someone else with a different body type. So I admire pencil skirts, compliment anyone who wears them well, and I am still on the prow for one that works for my body type. Case closed!

What Does Work for My Body Type

On the other hand, I can wear a jumpsuit. It is popping on me. However, I still need to be aware of the material and cut, so it fits my curves. But overall, Jumpsuits are a perfect match for me. I am always mindful that my waist, hips, and thighs combined are not always easy to buy bottom clothes to fit. You may need to pay special style attention to your lower or upper bodies such as thighs, waist, or chest.

I want you all to love the skin you are in and know that your body is perfect the way God made it.
