How to Dress Up a Simple Shirt Dress

I am all about simple styles that can turn heads when I pass by. But if I want to turn up a simple look, to make it a little more exciting, I pile on beautiful summer accessories.

In general, accessories set the tone for an outfit to be dressed up, toned down or somewhere In the middle.

That’s exactly what I had in mind with this summer shirt dress. I did not want a plain look although it is simple and lovely by design.

Here is my style recipe to pulling the right pieces to jazz up a simple shirt dress:

  1. An oversized belt: this dress came with a belt made in the same material as the dress. I ditched it and pulled in this wide leather weaved belt. It’s another timeless piece from Banana Republic that I have held on to for years. The leather’s brown hue balanced all the colors perfectly.
  1. Wrap Wedges and a Straw Tote: wrap Rayan wedged sandals and a straw tote, are summer stables for any look! They are the perfect level of dressy and always pretty. But of course comfortable. You know me, I can’t resist adding color!
  2. Add natural textures.  drop earrings always add a flare. If you feel you want to tone down a look, go with studs or accessories made from natural materials like wood or grass. I carried natural textures throughout this look to set a style tone of casual dressy. Although my earrings are drop, the texture implies chic and relaxed. I added a wood bracelet as well to keep the casual theme going throughout the look.

As you experiment with styling your outfits for different occasions, play with accessories to strike the perfect balance for the look you are going for. Refer back to these tips as needed to help you gauge how fancy or how casual you want your outfit to be. An always remember, Enjoy Your Style!
